Bermuda Adventure 2024 - Day 4

Let’s start today’s blog with a few more fun facts about Bermuda. The price of everything is much higher in Bermuda. All items are imported and there is a 25% tariff and then the vendors mark everything up 50% - 75%. Here is a price list of a few items.

Gasoline $9.50 for four liters

Dozen eggs $12.00

Milk gallon $11.00

Case of beer $50.00

Another fact of life is there is no source of fresh water other than rain collection. Every home has a series of pipes to collect rain water and store it in a cistern.

This is a British protectorate so they drive on the left side of the road. Always look both ways before crossing the street. Especially look to your right.

Bermuda is a volcanic island rising 15,000 feet from the sea floor. The North Atlantic Ocean is very deep right up to the shoreline.

Here is a photo I took of our floating city. The Norwegian Joy is really, really big.

The ship is so large they give you clues how to find your way. If you look down on the hallway rug you will see fish. The fish are always swimming towards the front of the ship.

Today’s adventure is a snorkeling trip on a catamaran. The entire family, all nine of us are going on the Restless Native.

We were all together on our way to the snorkeling trip and had a cruise ship staffer take our first family photo of the trip.

The Restless Native picked us up right next to our cruise ship. We only had to walk a few steps.

We had a thirty minute cruise to a secluded beach with a small reef. The crew anchored the boat bow and stern and launched all the toys. They had several kayaks and paddle boards in addition to the snorkeling gear.

Eleanor, Rachel, Parker and JP are living the dream on a paddle board.

Alison and Oscar are floating by.

We had three hours to snorkel, kayak and paddle board. There were numerous fish on the reef and the water was clear. The water temperature was refreshing for the first several minutes but we all got used to it. It was easy to get on and off the catamaran because they have a staircase that lowers into the water.

One of the surprising highlights of the cruise was having the crew bake chocolate chip cookies for the guests.

After the snorkeling adventure we hurried back to the ship to change for dinner. We had reservations at Cagnies Steak House at 6:30 pm. This was dress up night and I booked a photo shoot for the family. We have had literally hundreds of photos taken of family groups and individuals but this was the money shot of the entire family. We arrived on time for the photos and then enjoyed a wonderful dinner together.

Rachel took this photo over the shoulder of the photographer.

Tomorrow will be a busy day with an island tour, cave exploring, cliff diving, national zoo and mini golf.
