Bicycle Adventures - Woodstork Trail

It is the dead of winter in south Florida. The temperature in 72°f at 1:00 pm. Too cold to swim so we are off to try a new bike path. We attached the bike rack and loaded the bikes. We are getting better at doing this task quickly. The bike rack is heavy enough that it takes both of us to carry it. The clamps and straps keep the bikes very secure.

We headed north on the Federal Highway for 25 minutes to the Woodstork Trail Neighborhood Park.

This is a lovely little park in the middle of several housing developments. The 1.8 miles of bike trails are all paved. This makes for a fast circuit.

We made two round trips then crossed over to another park. The bike path was very short but we added a mile to our ride. Our next trek was to ride in several nearby neighborhoods

We rode through three distinct neighborhoods that surrounded the park. One was blue collar, one was middle class and one was upper middle class. Priscilla made an observation after we rode past hundreds of homes. Street after street, neighborhood after neighborhood there was not one for sale sign. No one is leaving Florida.

The park posted a sign warning of alligators. That could just be PR but we observed all the dog walkers keeping their pets on the path. The only wildlife we observed were squirrels and ducks. We passed several walkers on the path and rang our bike bells. As the walkers acknowledged our bell I called out “ice cream man.”

Our next trip will be to a major state park. Stay tuned.
